FIRST-TIME CANDIDATE CHARLES JAY PREPS FOR MULTI-PARTY PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
-- Event will be televised on Free Speech TV and sold on DVD --

ELKHART, IN. -- For CHARLES JAY, the Personal Choice Party's 2004 presidential nominee, almost every step along the campaign trail provides a new experience. "It almost feels like I'm driving a convertible, with the top down, the wind in my face, and I don't know where I'm going to end up," he says.

His latest journey takes him to East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., where he will be one of five participants in Friday's Multi-Party Presidential Debate, a first-time event sponsored by the Volunteer State's Green Party.

Jay, 43, a veteran of many years in radio and television, isn't likely to be awed by his surroundings. But inasmuch as this is his first run for public office, he has never prepared for a political debate of any kind.

So he's "cramming", just a little.

"Oh, I brushed up on a few policy issues, and of course I watched all three of the Bush-Kerry debates, plus the Cheney-Edwards debate," he says. "I've also had the opportunity to see some of the people I'll be sharing the dais with on Friday, because their debate from Cornell University was televised on C-SPAN. I was very impressed."

The other participants in the debate are presidential candidates DAVID COBB of the Green Party, MICHAEL BADNARIK of the Libertarian Party, and WALT BROWN of the Socialist Party, as well as DEIDRE GRISWOLD, former presidential candidate, representing the Workers World Party.

"There will be some ideologues up there, to be sure," he says. "But I don't intend to engage in a lot of esoterica. For a third-party like ours, the approach is relatively simple - based on common sense, and not just the idea that people are entitled to the right to make their own choices in every part of their lives, but that they need to stand up for the rights of others just as strongly as they stand up for their own."

Those interested in seeing the debate can do so in a couple of different ways. Free Speech TV, which is available on Dish Network (Channel 9415) and on the internet at http://www.freespeech.org, will broadcast it on October 29 at 10 PM, October 30 at 4 PM, and October 31 at 3 AM, 10 AM, and 8 PM (all times Eastern).

The event will also be available on DVD from Mountain Eye Media. The price is $15 and will start shipping on October 22. For ordering information, please visit http://www.mountaineyemedia.org/debatedvd.html, or call 828-254-5580.

"This is the debate that is most open to the candidates," says Jay. "Virtually everybody on a ballot was invited. To me, it's the only debate that really matters, and it's a golden opportunity for people to find out about my candidacy and the Personal Choice Party."
